Group supervision from the perspective of the participating schools

Abstract

A not very emphasized and researched tool of teacher professional development in Czech schools is the collegial exchange of professional experience. These are formally organized, conducted and repeated meetings of teachers who talk about important professional events and provide each other with feedback. One of the specific forms can be supervision. The article presents the results of a questionnaire survey at 10 schools (n = 177 people), which use supervision and possibly other types of exchange of professional experience. The analysis showed that respondents assessed supervision and other exchange of professional experience as highly beneficial. The more positive attitude was reported by the teachers, who regularly attend such meetings. Most often, events concerning pupils and parents are shared, only marginally topics related to professional identity. Teachers tend to participate voluntarily, but some prefer compulsory or combined participation.
