Wilderness therapy can be understood as one of the possible types of therapy, which includes working with a group of participants in a natural environment. The main goal of this approach of working is to influence self-awareness, which is reflected in his way of behaving and thinking. By a combination of self-experiential learning, group and individual therapy in the wild, personal development takes the place (Russell et al. 2000; Russell 2001; Russell and Phillips-Miller 2002). The therapy, which was originally created for the development of adolescents with risky behavior, is now also used for adults with various social difficulties, such as homelessness (Norton et al. 2020), inpatients in acute care (Woodford et al. 2017) or working with the whole family system (Christenson and Merritts 2017). This direction, which was inspired by Kurt Hahn and his Outward Bound programs, is gradually moving from the state of North America to Europe and also to the Czech Republic. In the country, there are currently first research studies on this topic, and the Association for Wilderness Therapy and Adventure in the Czech Republic, z.s., was founded, which seeks to establish Wilderness therapy under the Czech mutation Terapie divočinou.
