Movement therapies and their benefits in otherwise visually disposed children with oncological anamnesis
Keywords:
oncological diseases, visual impairment, movement therapyAbstract
This study deals with the evaluation of motor development level and its changes in a child with oncological disease, depending on the undertaken motion program. The implementation of the program is in our case study influenced by the ongoing optic glioma (tumor of the optic nerve). We are primarily interested in the methodology and possibilities of developing the coordination motor skills of the child with visual impairment and whether a patient with this diagnosis can be tested by standard methods. This influence has been tested using Movement Assessment Battery for Children – Second Edition (MABC-2) which evaluates children's motor skills and coordination and helps to identify the motor or coordination problems in individual age categories.
"Oncological diseases of childhood, compared to oncological diseases of adults, rank among rare diseases with an incidence in the order of units per 100 thousand people. According to International Classification of Disease (ICD-10) it is a wide group of diseases with more than 70 diagnoses. Although this type of disease is rare, it is the second most common cause of death in children. "(Children's Oncology, 2017 [online]).
If we focus on the occurrence of different types of tumors in childhood, CNS tumors (including glioma optics suffered by our proband) are on the second place behind acute leukemia (bone marrow cancer). (Children's Oncology, 2017 [online]).
