Focus and Scope

The mission of the scientific journal "Acta Salus Vitae" - ISSN 1805-8787

The mission of the scientific journal "Acta Salus Vitae" is publishing of original peer-reviewed scientific papers in English. The journal is published 2 times a year with deadlines of 1st May and 1st November of the actual year. Scientific journal "Acta Salus Vitae" is the first scientific journal in the Czech and European environment presenting serious scientific results in the field of wellness. By publishing this scientific journal in the modern scheme of Web of Science we aim to create new scientific platform in the down defined base of wellness and its consequences in the area of health promotion and quality of life. Scientific platform of the journal is open for wellness problematic experts, e.g. pedagogues, educators, physicians, physiotherapists, physiologists, psychologists, coaches, etc. The platform of the scientific journal" Acta Salus Vitae" is determined in the thematic areas:

• Scientific theoretical foundations of wellness, health and quality of life. Methodology of research in wellness. Philosophical and ethical principles.

• Physical, mental, social, moral and economic aspects in relation to human health. Wellness in the environmental context. Wellness issues in the school and work environment. Intervention projects, applied research.

• Wellness and lifestyle. Principles of protective and health nourishment. Sleep habits in relation to wellness and quality of life. Adequate exercise regime, adapted physical activities. Wellness programs and wellness procedures in relation to health benefits.

In antic the word "Salus" was used for Roman goddess as a personification of harmony, peace, health and prosperity. This word can be used in the new scientific context to express the content the modern concept of "wellness".  According the definition of WHO: “Wellness is the optimal state of health of individuals and groups. There are two focal concerns: the realisation of the fullest potential of an individual physically, psychologically, socially, spiritually and economically, and the fulfilment of one´s role in the family, community, place of worship, workplace and other settings.” – WHO (2000). Peer Review Process

Review process:

Each manuscript is assessed in an independent anonymous peer-review process by two reviewers, who work in a different institution than the author of the manuscript. In the case of a negative review, it is prepared a third one. The reviewer may recommend: to publish the manuscript, to publish the manuscript after the completion of corrections, to rework the article and to publish it after a new peer- review process. All reviews are archived.

 

The following criteria are always considered for each submission in the peer-review process:

  • Evaluation of topic in actual knowledge context.
  • Ethics aspects
  • Originality and scientific contribution and benefits.
  • Evaluation of methods, adequacy to solved problem
  • Fulfilment of aims and their interpretation
  • Evaluation of structure and comprehensibility of the text
  • Selection of references, their relevancy

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Statement about Publication Ethics

The journal “Acta Salus Vitae” (ASV) is an academic journal published by the College of Physical Education and Sport PALESTRA and the Society for Research in Wellness. The priority of the editorial team is to publish quality papers from the areas of health promotion, health prevention, wellness, kinesiology, kinanthropology and health education. The integrity of the content published is an essential point and should be ensured during the review and the edition processes. To that purpose, all the actors of an ASV publication, authors, reviewers, members of the editorial team and of ASV consortium, are expected to fully adhere to our policy regarding publication ethics and respect the following statements:

Ethics Policy

The journal ASV follows the publication ethics policy according COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines https://publicationethics.org/guidance/Guidelines.The Publication Ethics guidelines cover duties of editors, reviewers, authors and the publisher.

All research involving human subjects presented in the submitted manuscripts must have been carried out in accordance with the Helsinki Declaration of 1964 (amended 2013) and the text of manuscript must contain statements that the research was approved by an ethics committee, and that informed consent was signed by the subjects, refer to the ICMJE Recommendations for the Protection of Research Participants.

It is used the “Inclusive language” acknowledges diversity, conveys respect to all people, is sensitive to differences, and promotes equal opportunities. Manuscripts should make no assumptions about the beliefs or commitments of any reader, should contain nothing which might imply that one individual is superior to another on the grounds of race, sex, culture or any other characteristic.

Conflict of Interest

All authors are requested to disclose any actual or potential conflicts of interests including financial, personal or other relationships with other people or organizations that could inappropriately influence, or be perceived to influence, their work.

Contributors

The corresponding author has to declare individual contributions of the co-authors to the article. All authors must have participated in the research and/or article preparation, so roles for all authors should be described. The statement that all authors have approved the final article should be true and included in the disclosure.

Submission of the Manuscript

Submission of the manuscript implies that contain original text that has not previously been published, and is not currently under consideration for publication nor will be submitted elsewhere until the final decision and that, if accepted, it will not be published elsewhere. The journal uses double-blind review, which means the identities of the authors are concealed from the reviewers, and vice versa. To facilitate this, please include the following separately: Title page (with author details): This should include the title, authors' names, affiliations, acknowledgements and any declaration of interest statement, and a complete address for the corresponding author including an e-mail address. Blinded manuscript (no author details): The main body of the paper (including the references, figures, tables and any acknowledgements) should not include any identifying information, such as the authors' names or affiliations.

Submission to this journal proceeds totally online and you will be guided step-by-step through the creation and uploading of your files. All correspondence, including notification of the editor's decision and requests for revision, takes place by e-mail removing the need for a paper trail.

Ensure that the following items are present:

  • Both British and American English is allowed, but its usage must be consistent throughout the whole paper.
  • Be sure that according the Instructions for authors the manuscript contains all parts: Title; Abstract; Keywords; Introduction; Aim; Hypotheses; Methods; Results; Discussion; Conclusions.
  • All presented figures and tables are clearly marked, include numbers and titles and are mentioned in the text under the correct number.
  • All references mentioned in the reference list are cited in the text.
  • Permission has been obtained for use of copyrighted material from other sources.
  • A conflict of interest is declared.
  • References are in the correct format of APA.
  • One author has been designated as the corresponding author with contact details: (e-mail, address, and phone).
  • In the end of the manuscript the suggestions are given for 2 potential reviewers and their contact details (e-mail, address). Note that the editor retains the sole right to decide whether or not the suggested reviewers are used. 

Review Process

All authors listed on a manuscript have agreed to its submission. The signature of the corresponding author on the letter of submission signifies that these conditions have been fulfilled. Received manuscript is first examined by the editor. Manuscript with insufficient priority for publication is rejected promptly. Incomplete submissions or manuscripts not prepared in the advised style will be sent back to authors without scientific review. Manuscripts which conform to journal scope and style will be sent to at least two reviewers by a member of the editorial team, who will then act as the coordinating editor. The journal uses double-blind review, which means which means that reviewers remain anonymous by default.

Reviewers are expected to objectively evaluate papers and inform ASV editor of any potential conflict of interest. Confidentiality of the manuscripts they are reviewing should be maintained. Potential reviewers who decline to review a paper are encouraged to state the reason why.

Editorial Ethics

At the end of the review process, the editor-in-chief makes the final decision of acceptance or rejection, based on the reviewers’ reports and the recommendation of the topical editor in charge of the review process. If there is any conflict of interest between an editor and an author, the editor in question will not be involved in the review and the decision processes.

The “Editorial Manager” system, used for manuscript submission in ASV, will automatically anonymize the reviewers’ comments to authors. Reviewers can also send attached files (review report, commented manuscript) that can be communicated to the author; in this case the version sent to the author is also automatically anonymized (the author of the comments cannot be identified). However, reviewers should not enter their names or initials in the file name or inside the document.

ASV publications are freely available at no charge on the website, http://odborne.casopisy.palestra.cz/index.php/actasalusvitae/. Authors are encouraged to disseminate their work: they can directly download the pdf files of their articles from the website and distribute to interested parties.

The names, affiliations and email addresses entered in the journal site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of the journal ASV and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.

We do our best to avoid ethical issues before publication, but anyone who suspects an ethical issue is encouraged to contact us.
