This article focuses on the importance of physical activity and spa therapy in the prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, one of the most prevalent chronic diseases. Type 2 diabetes mellitus affects more than 10% of the population, with the Czech Republic ranking among the European countries with the highest incidence. The paper emphasizes the benefits of regular guided therapeutic rehabilitation during comprehensive spa treatment, particularly regarding glycemic control, improved insulin resistance, prevention and management of chronic diabetes complications, cardiovascular health, and overall quality of life. Spa therapy represents a holistic approach, combining therapeutic rehabilitation with physical activity, diet therapy, education, and psychological support, while utilizing natural healing resources and physiotherapeutic procedures. Research confirms that increased physical activity reduces insulin resistance, lowers HbA1c levels, improves lipid profiles, and decreases stress, thereby supporting the prevention of chronic diabetes complications. Spa programs integrate multiple interventions with a focus on lifestyle modification. However, long-term success depends on individualized care, patient motivation for sustainable lifestyle changes, and adherence to prescribed exercise regimens even in the home environment.
