The aim of the paper is to describe the contribution of Sokol to the creation of the Czech national society. Especially the ideas of Karel Weigner, who was inspired by the leading First Republic humanists and democrats and has held the idea of the ancient kalokaghatia, will be put into the context of the form of national identity. This article is referred to the importance of national awareness and physical education efforts in the formation of a sovereign state.
